After you send in your electronic application, a staff member will get back to you in less than two business days. If we like your application, we will continue the selection process with you. If you don’t hear back from us within two business days, please contact us directly at volunteer[at]; this probably means your application had some technical error and didn’t come through.

As a next step, we will ask you to fill a more detailed application form. After we receive this, we will confirm your placement with your chosen placement organisation. Since the business pace in Africa can be quite slow compared to western standards, and because our partners travel a lot in-country, this may take up to 1-2 weeks, so we kindly ask you to be patient during this step. If our partners accept you for an internship, you are then required to pay the $500 non-refundable confirmation fee, which secures your placement and acts as your official acceptance into the programme!

We will also be happy to assist you in efforts to apply for credit from your University, and to apply for university or external funding for your internship. Many of our interns have received university credit and have successfully applied for grants and scholarships to (partly) pay their internship.

After you pay your placement fee, we will provide you with more information on your host country, and we will put you in direct contact with your local internship coordinator.


What are the Fees and what do they include?

All placement programmes are $200 per week in Ghana and Sierra Leone. For placements that are 6 weeks or less, there is a flat fee of $1080 for Ghana and 1200$ for Sierra Leone and Liberia. This fee covers:

  • Utilities.
  • Accommodation.
  • Programme administration costs.
  • Daily breakfast and dinner.
  • A one-day Orientation in your placement destination.
This fee does NOT include:
  • Transport to and from the ACIPP house to your workplace.
  • Lunch (interns will be at work during this time)
  • Extra services, such as laundry or language classes.
Please budget for these costs according to your host country and placement organisation. For an estimate of how much to budget for, ask your volunteer coordinator for help!

Programme fees are due no later than 30 days before your arrival in your host country.
We charge an extra 100$ for the first month, then 50$ for every additional month to provide preferential access to a doctor. This is to guarantee you can see a doctor quickly and don’t have to spend hours waiting at the hospital. This fee is mandatory and no exceptions can be made.

Is there a deposit required?
We require a confirmation fee of $500 which is NOT part of the programme fee. The $500 confirmation is your registration fee and goes towards setting up your placement, donation towards your host institution, airport pick-up, etc. This fee is non-refundable and must be received one month after your acceptance by ACIPP.

When should I pay?
It is important that interns pay their full fees before leaving for their host country. The details of this and the possibility of payment in instalments can be discussed with the recruiter once a placement is agreed upon.

Are there special group rates?
Sometimes groups can get a discount. Please email our intern coordinator to see if your group might qualify.

Do I have to raise money for ACIPP beyond my placement fee?
No. This is not a requirement. However, you are encouraged to raise money for local organisation you will be working with or the specific project that you will be taking part in before you come. Not only will this help raise awareness in your own community about your particular cause, but it will also help educate those around you regarding different global issues. If you do decide to fundraise, be sure to record the names and addresses of your donors. For every donation over $100 we will be sure to send you home with a special “Thank You” package for your donor(s). If you need help organising, send us a mail and we will help you out.
